I'm not sure which of the Shin Megami Tensei's I've played since my playing of them was based on borrowing a friend's handheld along with the games. However, I do remember playing the first one quite a bit. I do have to say though, that my favorite part of the series in general is usually the main character.

One. D: I'm gonna play thru all of them eventually, though. Planning on getting a 3DS very soon as well, to be able to play SMT4.

I have played Shin Magami Tensei: Nocturne twice in my life time. This is my favorite game in the series. Moreover, I learned to use all of the moves with each character in the game. The moves consists of using magic and weapons on your opponents. The controls are easy to use and I can compete in every level. I also like the soundtrack to the game. The themes work well with the story as well. Most of the characters have interesting backgrounds even though they don't do much.

    The Background
The characters fight against each other sometimes. Additionally, the story shows that the characters show emotions for their own problems in the game. On the other hand, the story brings positive messages to the player at all times. This is one reason why I play this game instead of playing the other ones in the series. I can deal with the great story and gameplay. I can beat this game over and over again because of the artificial intelligence in each level.

Overall, this is a popular title in this series because of the quick gameplay.

Shin Megami Tensei was the first of 3 games I ever got for my Game Boy Advance. It feels like ages ago lol! I do have SMT: Strange Journey and SMT IV on separate consoles but I haven't gotten the chance (or time) to really sit down and play them.

I have only gotten the chance to play 2 out of the 4 SMT series that I know of Shin Megami Tensei and Shin Megami Tensi Strange Journey. Would love to get my hands on the others as soon as I can so I can completely say next time that I have played all of the series.

I am currently playing Nocturne on hard mode. I heard that this game is not as story-heavy as the Persona games I am used to (3 FES and 4) so I went in for the challange. I don't regret it so far, although a certain fiend just wrecked me. I'll get that stupid monk eventually.

Anyway, no other games of the main series so far. I don't own the systems for most of them anyway.

Main series, I've beaten only Nocturne and IV. I loved IV, even if it wasn't as hard as I expected it to be, besides the beginning. Nocturne was also really good. I liked the atmosphere, feeling like there was no one else in most dungeons except the demons. The Reason Boss Battle theme is one of my favorites from the series.
I have barely played Strange Journey but I plan to play through it eventually now that I have an actual copy.

I’ve played all of the main games with the exceptions of II and If…

Shin Megami Tensei is one of those game series that really gives you a great feeling of satisfaction after you beat a boss battle. The atmosphere never ceases to creep me out when I’m playing alone at night too, so that’s a plus xD

I played Shin Megami Tensei IV and absolutely loved it! I powered through that game very quickly and now I'm not really sure what game to go to next. Any suggestions?

Also CaptainSmiley I have to agree, beating the bosses always feel like a huge accomplishment cause its always very difficult, so when you beat it you feel amazing!
