Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity

Story

Immortality is boring. While one would imagine an all-powerful vampire has a lot to do, such is not the case for Remilia Scarlet. After 500 years, the Scarlet Devil is desperately searching for something new to grab her interest. One day, she finds exactly that when she stumbles upon a newspaper article about a powerful, mysterious monster wreaking havoc across the countryside. Her curiosity piqued, she runs out to investigate this disturbance, letting the tabloids guide her to just where it might be.

After an unsuccessful first investigation, she returns to find her mansion in ruins. It seems the monster has brought the fight to her! Vowing revenge, Remilia sets out with a renewed sense of determination: she will find this monster, and she will make it pay! …And, at least for a time, she might not be quite so bored.

Overview

Set in the ever-expanding Touhou Project universe, Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity eschews the series’ shoot-em-up roots in favor of a more action RPG approach, drawing heavy inspiration from Ys in its world and gameplay designs while still retaining its indie roots, having originated as a fan-made game in homage to the legendary ‘bullet-hell’ series. Featuring a wide variety of natural settings presented in high-definition, along with a variety of flashy attacks, tricky platforming, and even some destructible environments, players will have plenty to explore and lots to do as they fight their way through the game’s myriad of aggressive creatures. Combat occurs in real-time, with fast-paced, frenetic maneuvering being a must to avoid the enemies’ complex patterns and waves of projectiles. The action is tied together by a simple yet charming story that draws upon the Touhou Project ’s 20 years of lore to help characterize its two playable protagonists, Remilia and Sakuya, adding to the experience for series fans while providing a great jumping-in point for newcomers.

Key Features

  • Acclaimed Indie Title Makes Jump to Console – Originally released as a fan-made indie title for PC, Scarlet Curiosity instantly gained a following for its beautiful soundtrack, impressive art direction, and high-speed action, and the leap to PS4 further refines the game with 1080p visuals running at a smooth 60 frames per second.
  • Two Characters for Twice the Adventure – Players can choose to play as the titular vampire, Remilia Scarlet, who relies on her magic and vampiric abilities to defeat enemies at her own pace, or her devoted maid, Sakuya Izayoi, who prefers close combat as she tears things up with her time control powers and infinite supply of knives.
  • Familiar Friends and Fearsome Foes – Fans of the Touhou series will find themselves right at home as the game is packed to the gills with fan-favorite characters, some of whom will challenge Remilia and Sakuya to intense boss battles that fill the screen with projectiles in a manner worthy of the renowned Touhou ‘king of bullet hell’ name.
  • Action and RPG in Equal Measure – While containing all of the combat, platforming, and boss fights of an action game, experience and equipment systems allow players to level up, toughen up, and unlock various special abilities and magic spells to customize their gameplay experience.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II

Story

Peace is but a memory.

In the wake of the Noble Faction’s occupation of Heimdallr, civil war has broken out across Erebonia. The provincial armies, loyal to the aristocracy and the Four Great Houses, have claimed many of the nation’s great cities in the name of the Noble Alliance. The Imperial Army, called back from the four corners of the Empire, has only just begun sweeping its counterattack.

After Rean managed to escape Trista with Celine and Valimar, he awakens in the mountains near his hometown uncertain what fate befell his friends, who bravely threw themselves in harm’s way to buy him time to flee.

Though the road will not be an easy one, Rean decides to take up his sword again, journeying across Erebonia with his Divine Knight, Valimar, in search of his friends from Class VII and a way to end the conflict before its price becomes far too dear…

Overview

Trails of Cold Steel II picks up one month after the decisive collision which changed the fate of the entire nation of Erebonia. The speedy, tactical turn-based combat with the newly-developed “ARCUS” system returns with all the bells and whistles players fondly remember together with a new Overdrive mode, new means of transportation both across the land and sky, new allies, new dangers, and a renewed sense of hope as Rean tirelessly works to right the wrongs that have led the country to disarray.

Key Features

  • A Sequel that Remembers the Past – Clear data from Trails of Cold Steel carries over, granting bonus stats and extra items, while also remembering the many relationships cultivated during earlier times spent at Thors Military Academy to allow for more personalized conversations throughout the story.
  • The Link System Returns with a new Overdrive Mode – Bonding with allies continues to pay off with the Combat Link System, netting a variety of combat benefits including healing, guarding, and more, while the new Overdrive mode allows linked characters to attack up to three turns in a row for new strategic battle options.
  • Recruit Allies from Across the Map to Prepare for War – Find and recruit dozens of fellow Thors attendees who are now scattered across the country to gain exclusive shops, goods, training modes, systems, and plenty more of the Trails series’ highly celebrated colorful dialogue.
  • Take to the Land and Sky in New Modes of Transportation – A personalized airship allows players to swiftly descend upon both familiar and foreign destinations, and travel on land is faster than ever between horseback riding and Angelica’s customizable orbal bike.

Fate/Extella

Story

The Moon Cell Automaton is a spiritron computer, which exists on the moon and has the power to grant any wish. All across the spiritron-constructed virtual world, SE.RA.PH., Servants and the Masters who control them fight for the right to be the Moon Cell Automaton’s one owner in a ceremonial conflict known as the Holy Grail War.

Now, the Servant Nero Claudius and her Master have won the Holy Grail War and have obtained the universal wishing mechanism, the Holy Grail.

They also obtained the Regalia, a ring that proves their kingship. With it, they rule over their once-enemy Servants and start a new beginning on the moon’s new world.

But a new enemy has appeared before them. And this enemy has something that shouldn’t exist: another Regalia.

Overview

Fate Heads for a New Stage!

The famous Fate series now strikes a path to a new stage with the newest title, Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star. Many fan-favorite characters, including the ancient Heroic Spirits (Servants) summoned by the Holy Grail, make their appearances, with the series being reborn as a high-speed combat-oriented title in which players face off against the enemy and their army in exciting large-scale action scenes. Players can also take some time to enjoy the deep storyline the Fate series is known for.

Key Features

  • A Variety of Fate Universes Collide – Not just Fate/Extra Servants, but characters from Fate/stay night, Fate/Apocrypha, Fate/Grand Order and other Fate continuities make their appearances here. Players can enjoy the action with the original Japanese voice-overs and English subtitles.
  • A Brand-New Story from Acclaimed Series Author, Nasu Kinoko – As the original creator of Fate/stay night and the scenario writer of Fate/Extra, Nasu Kinoko has created a completely new scenario for Fate/Extella, evolving his highly celebrated universe and characters.
  • A Large Story Told from Different Perspectives – The story is told from the independent perspectives of three heroine Servants, augmented by various side stories that help supplement the main storyline.
  • A New Way to Battle – As the first action game in the Fate series, players will finally be able to control a Servant and perform various moves, including a powerful form change ability to transform Servants. Engage in intense battles on the ground or in mid-air to annihilate the enemy forces!

SPOILER

7th Dragon III Code: VFD puts players in a world beset by dragons. They’re everywhere and all intimidating in their own way. Even the most basic beasts you’ll encounter in dungeons are equivalent to mini-boss encounters, and you can run into one after another in a very short span. A second dragon can run up and even crash your current dragon battle. It’s a tough world out there. But honestly, facing every dragon is for the best.

Everyone one of these dragon battles makes a difference. They’re good practice, for one. Dragons are different than standard enemies. They’re larger, have better attacks, and get to attack twice each turn. While the High and True Dragons are unquestionably stronger, the standard dragons’ battles can follow a similar formula. This means you’ll have an idea of how a fight against a stronger dragon will go after one of these. After all, every dragon won’t hesitate to use debuffs on your party, poisoning, blinding, and bleeding them. They’ll also buff themselves a round before using a special, stronger attack, which can only be countered by having the party guard the turn of the attack or calling up an ally from the rear to aid one of your own character’s attacks to break through the enemy’s newly raised attacks or defenses.

You get to find a groove for yourself and find tactics that easily apply to every boss battle with these fights. For example, my primary party is a God Hand, Duelist, and Fortuner. The Fortuner is there for buffing the party. She casts Forest Poetry, which regenerates health at the end of each turn, then Dynamic Negate, which buffs physical defense, and occasionally Magic Negate, if the dragon uses magic. Not all of them use magic, but all have physical attacks. Turns when she’s not keeping the buffs up are spent using Revelation: Bleed or Revelation: Poison to assault the dragon. The Duelist is all about setting traps. Pitfall is triggered by any damage, with a chance of nulling actions, Barbed Wire is triggered by physical damage and may inflict bleed. Fire Whirl responds to magic attacks and could blind. Having all three set at once while knowing Judgement springs all three at once and causes massive damage. Finally, the God Hand attacks each turn. She uses Jab to increase God Depth high enough to regularly use the damage dealing and attack lowering Double Hook and damage dealing and defense lowering Spinning Edge. While some variation is necessary for High and True Dragons, this plan has worked for every standard dragon I faced.

But don’t make that thing you have to follow my example. It’s only one of many groupings that can work in 7th Dragon III Code: VFD. The constant dragon assaults help you find your tactics and develop your plan. It keeps you from panicking during one of the more dangerous battles. Because you will encounter more dangerous fights, even on the easy difficulty settings. The major dragons are going to be different, and even regular dragons can surprise you. Fortunately, you’ll have muscle memory to rely on.

But let’s get back to those surprising fights. 7th Dragon III Code: VFD’s dragon battles can be more hazardous than you’d like. They function a bit like Etrian Odyssey’s F.O.E.s, as they’re visible enemies roaming around the map, following set patterns, and are more than happy to drop in on you in the midst of a match. When a battle begins, either against regular enemies or a dragon, you’ll see a scale at the bottom right side of the screen. This image of a dragon’s head will change in colors when a dragon is nearing and, at the end of each turn, you’ll hear how much closer it is. When the icon is red, the dragon will come the next turn. If it’s a regular battle, some of the first foes you were facing will disappear. If it’s another dragon, it’ll make some space on the side for the newcomer. You can only face two dragons at once, so there’s some solace in that, but a second dragon at an inconvenient time could cause you to fall even when prepared.

The thought of a surprise dragon fight isn’t exactly pleasant, but it’s often exactly what you want. Each location in 7th Dragon III Code: VFD has a set number of dragons there and Dragonsbane throughout it. If you manage to defeat every dragon, you not only get the DZ needed for certain projects at Nodens, but also wipe out the flowers from that area. Since dragons will only come after you if you’re already engaged in a fight, so you have to prolong ordinary battles until they jump in too. It’s the only way to clear an area.

Frankly, every ordinary dragon battle in 7th Dragon III Code: VFD is building to something greater. It’s giving you the experience you’ll need for further fights, both literally and figuratively. You’re learning exactly how these creatures tick. The most basic match ups aren’t as difficult as the true boss fights, but introduce you to attack patterns and variations of the kinds of moves you’ll see later in the game. Even facing more than one dragon at a time will help you in the long run. You’ll develop strategies that will benefit you for hours to come.

7th Dragon III Code: VFD will come to the Nintendo 3DS on July 12, 2016

SPOILER

Capcom shared the latest on their upcoming Nintendo 3DS title, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice, with some new screenshots details on the new demo and story for E3 2016.

The new demo introduces bright-eyed monk-in-training and self-styled tour guide Ahlbi Ur’gaid, who has been accused of stealing the Kingdom of Khura’in’s national treasure, “The Founder’s Orb,” and murdering its guard, Paht Rohl. Under the kingdom’s legal system, if the defendant is proven guilty, so is the representing attorney. This has led to the absence of lawyers for many years, but visiting attorney Phoenix Wright steps in to defend Ahlbi against the returning and smugger-than-ever prosecutor Gaspen Payne.

In this land’s courtrooms, séance trials decide the fate of all defendants. Royal priestess Rayfa is able to divine the final moments of a victim’s life in the courtroom’s Pool of Souls. The victim’s memories are not limited to sight alone – all of a victim’s final sensations are laid bare for the court to consider before a judgment is made. Players will need to find inconsistencies between Rayfa’s interpretations of the vision and the memory itself to prove Ahlbi’s innocence.

Here are some new screenshots:

Slated for release during winter 2016, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will be out in time to celebrate the 30th year anniversary of the Dragon Ball franchise. Based on the massive success of the first game, Xenoverse 2 will be an Action-Fighting game with MMO and RPG elements where players can power-up characters and explore the vast Dragon Ball universe.

As history is being attacked and altered by evil intruders, players will have to become Time Patrollers in order to protect the Past and the Future of the Dragon Ball world. New and powerful foes coming from Dragon Ball movies (such as Slug, with more to be revealed) will do their best to succeed in their wicked deeds. To fight them, Time Patrollers will gather in a huge new city that is 7 times bigger than “Toki Toki City” from the previous game. Conton City is the name of the new main hub where all players can undertake quests, train at school, enter fights, shop and more. On top of a massive city that will allow for up to 300 simultaneous players, Bandai Namco Entertainment and Dimps have implemented new exciting features: including that each playable race will have different rewards for their missions.

Dragon Rageis designed to let players vent off steam with destruction, giving them a powerful dragon and asking them to smash, burning, and destroy everything and everyone in their path.

The dragon in Dragon Rage gets stronger as it devours villagers, filling a Rampage gauge that will let the beast unleash even more destruction. Eating villagers will also fill an Egg Meter, which lets player drop an egg. If the player can protect the egg from harm, it will hatch into a baby dragon that will help the player further lay waste to the city.

As the dragon causes damage, knights and other warriors will be sent in to slow the dragon down. Should the dragon cause enough damage, the royal family will appear to try to stop it.

Kingdom Hearts 3, the highly anticipated final title in the longrunning series, won't be visiting any worlds from the Final Fantasy series, according to co-director Tai Yasue.

In each Kingdom Hearts game, protagonist Sora and his friend visit worlds based on popular Disney films and franchises. These worlds each have their own unique challenges and boss fights, and in the past have included characters and settings from everything from old Disney cartoons to The Little Mermaid and The Nightmare Before Christmas, to the first Pirates of the Caribbean and Tronfilms. But developer Square Enix has no plans to add worlds from the Final Fantasy series, despite the game featuring many of the franchise's characters.

"We're not adding any Final Fantasy worlds. A lot of the original [to Kingdom Hearts] worlds [Hollow Bastion, Traverse Town, e.t.c.] had Final Fantasy characters in them. At this moment, we are not really coming up with any plans for that, we're making original worlds and Disney worlds."

According to Yasue, worlds to include Kingdom Hearts games are chosen based on gameplay ideas they want to implement, they try to see which Disney World bets fits this style of gameplay. "The best thing would be to have Disney Worlds every recognize and are famous, but that are also distinct and unique," Yasue added. "We want the difference and variety, we don't' want a lot of the same thing."

Nintendo rarely takes chances, so it's something to keep an eye on

Well that's good. I wonder if it's a 3DS or NX game.

Akiba’s Beat Story:

NEET: Short for “No Experience, Education, or Training.” Typically considered to be underskilled shut-ins who live by themselves in humble yet comfortable apartments, NEETs are known to mooch off their parents’ good will to play video games and watch anime all day instead of looking for work.

Asahi Tachibana is a textbook NEET, living a lazy, cozy life in Akihabara, the infamous Tokyosuburb renowned for its proliferation of anime and video game merchandise, maid cafes, pop idols, and all other forms of counterculture indulgence. To him, every day is Sunday, and every Sunday is a fun day. Little does he know, however, that every day is about to become Sunday for real!

Caught in atemporal loop, where the day restarts as soon as it ends, Asahi is one of only a chosen few whosememories don’t reset with it. He and his merry band of time-displaced losers must now scour Akihabara for signs of “delusions” – people’s innermost fantasies made manifest, changing the cityscape and the behavior of its citizens alike. It is the duty of this ragtag team (whether they like it or not) to infiltrate and

destroy these delusions, restoring the natural order of Akiba in the vain hope that this loop may be their

last.

During the course of this increasingly improbable quest, Asahi and his companions will unravel a deep, twisted mystery that blurs the line between the physical world and that of mankind’s innermost desires. Can this band of misfits restore normalcy (or what passes for normalcy) to Akihabara? Or will they succumb to the will of the enigmatic pink-caped man, who seems to be the key to everything…?

About Akiba’s Beat:

Akiba’s Beat is a modern-day satirical spin on a classic Japanese RPG formula. Set in a true-to-life recreation of Tokyo’s Akihabara ward (“Akiba” for short), players will take control of a party ofcharacters led by protagonist Asahi Tachibana as they seek to rid the town of anything out of syncwith reality. There are two sides to the gameplay: first, players will wander the streets and question the quirky Akihabara residents on a variety of subjects related to the mystery at hand, ultimately unlocking fantasy-themed dungeons known as “Delusionscapes” which are infested with monsters called “deluseons.”

These deluseons are encountered on the map and fought in a party-based action battle system, putting players’ skills to the test and creating a uniquely challenging experience that seamlessly blends a real-life locale with the secret delusory world of its residents’ true desires.
