Gematsu reports that Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final will be released in the West in summer 2016 for the Nintendo 3DS. The localisation team have also announced that the name of the Western release has been changed to Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse. A trailer and game site were released alongside this announcement, which you can check out below.
What do you think about the name change? Does having a SMT game release in the summer make you think Persona 5 could be released even later in the West?

I’m just going to list a few changes/improvoements:
-map / navigation completely improved
-Destination is marked with a red flag on the minimap.
-Partner characters comment every so often.
-Display estimated sell price of relics picked up.
-can use Navarre to remove low-level enemy symbols on the field.
-Map-Navi allows you to look at the map without having to worry about enemies attacking you.
-Names of locations on large map displayed on lower screen.
-Three selectable viewpoints (close, normal, far) for large map on upper screen.
-Icon displayed for NPC characters that haven’t talked to yet or choices haven’t selected
-Conversations with demons can resume through battles (ie. Talk to a demon about a certain topic, continue with that topic when encountering the same demon later on).
-When inheriting skills, you can choose the slots where they will appear.
-Binary Fusion, the traditional system from previous SMT games, makes a comeback.
-Can select level range as a criteria within Fusion Search
*You can adjust the difficulty at any time(Hm, couldn’t this be done in SMT IV already? Not sure if this is an addition or improvment, honestly).
-You can change the assigned slots for skills for the MC and demons at any time.
-When talking with demons, an icon denotes whether a particular demon is listed in your Compendium or not.
Unconfirmed if English version will launch with Apocalypse difficulty mode
Apocalypse mode
40% reduction to damage dealt
47% addition to damage received
reduced chance to escape
increased ally ailment susceptibility
increased enemy smirk chance
if MC is killed, game over, start again.
not sure if there are other details like %
SMTIV had about 436 demons. Apocalypse has about 450 demons, several redesigned and that’s not counting post launch developed DLC that’s epic. some dlc is free.
You could change the difficulty in SMT IV.
Yeah but that required you to die a few times. In Apocalypse, you can just change it whenever.
You mean getting easy mode, becuase to get that you indeed did have to die twice. So in Apocalypse (Thank god I don’t have to say final anymore, can’t tell you how annoying it was to find a song) you already have all the modes? That’s nice.
Yeah, I think it was the same with Record Breaker where you can just choose two difficulties at any time.
